USD 234 will be in session tomorrow, Wednesday, February 10, 2021. All buildings will operate under their regular class schedules. Buses will run as close to their regular times as possible in the morning and afternoon. We ask families to make sure students are dressed in layers including a warm hat, boots, and gloves, especially those who need to ride the bus. Although we are starting at our regular time, students driving to school should use precaution, especially when entering and leaving the parking lots. If your child will not be in attendance tomorrow, you will need to contact your child’s building office to let them know your student will not be there.
This morning, just after 8:00, Fort Scott High School experienced a medical emergency with a student. The high school was locked down during the medical emergency. The high school is no longer in lock down.
FSHS Parents: Tonight we received reports of a student threat towards the high school. The incident has been reported to the Fort Scott Police Department. It was determined the threat was not credible. Out of an abundance of caution we have requested extra police presence at the school. Thank you to the Fort Scott Police Department for their quick and decisive action. The safety of our students is taken very seriously and our number one priority.

Good morning Tigers! We are seeing an influx of outside drinks being brought into the high school. Just as a reminder no outside food or drink is to be brought into the building - this includes Sonic drinks, Scooters coffee etc. Water is the only drink allowed. Not only is this part of our Covid protocols, but it's also a cleaning/maintenance issue. Starting on Jan 19, students caught with outside drinks will be asked to toss them before coming into the building and if students habitually bring in drinks, additional consequences will be applied.
Today, Fort Scott High School was notified by the Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Department that a student at Fort Scott High School has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of the COVID-19 positive student, Fort Scott High School administration has worked with the SEKMCHD to perform close contact tracing and the families of those students who are deemed close contacts have been notified. The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, loss of taste and smell, vomiting, and diarrhea. Individuals who need medical care should call their medical provider to report their illness prior to seeking care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital. Parents of students exhibiting flu-like symptoms or staff exhibiting flu-like symptoms are asked to contact a school nurse, local health authorities, or the Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Department. We are closely monitoring this situation and will provide you with updates as we know more. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Fort Scott High School .
We are getting ready to welcome back students! Just as a reminder, students should enter the building tomorrow with a mask, and the mask should be on the face, covering both mouth and nose. Welcome back, Tiger nation!

Our new computer devices will be arriving soon. We are preparing for their arrival and the replacement of old devices with new devices. We will not be collecting the tech fee this year. But we do need parent and student signatures on their computer contract. We will send the signature form home with students next week. The entire contract can be found here. https://5il.co/mdjd. Students will not receive a new device without their contract on file. We are so excited about this. We can't wait for our students to have new devices!

We ask that one adult per student attend so we can control the size of our crowds. Teachers will be in the commons area and in the aux. gym. Parents should enter from the west doors, pick up their students progress report, and make their way to teachers. Students enrolled in Dual Credit English will need to contact FSCC to meet with their child's teacher.

The following is a message from Winfield Scott. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping students safe and supervised. If you have questions please call them at 620-223-0450. Due to students from other schools walking through Winfield Scott before 7am, when we don't have coverage, exterior doors will be locked until 7am. Students dropped off earlier than 7 will not be able to enter the building.
We are excited to see our Tiger students tomorrow. Each student will be screened for temperature and health. To help speed this process up, if students know the answers to the questions posted in the links, that would be helpful. Thank you so much for your assistance! https://5il.co/kpkr https://5il.co/kpkq
Continued information from the FSHS Operations Plan: Lunch: Lunch will be served between 1130-1pm daily. Students will be eating in the cafeteria and the aux gym to try and spread them out for physical distancing purposes. We tentatively plan three lines for student use. Our food service staff is working hard to ensure that students are able to get a nutritious meal in the safest way possible. These lunch areas will be cleaned between shifts and students may be asked to help with this process. For further information: https://5il.co/k7ze
Continued tidbits from the FSHS Operations Plan. Bathrooms: In an effort to reduce high touch items all student bathroom ENTRY doors will be propped open with the consent of the Fire Marshall. Individual stalls will still have doors for privacy. We are limiting the number of students in a bathroom to two. Bathroom emergencies could obviously over-ride our plan and we understand. For further information: https://5il.co/k7ze
Continued tidbits from the FSHS Operations Plan. Communication: Communication will be essential during this time. FSHS will send out updates as needed via the school website, social media outlets and via text caster. It is crucial that parents/guardians ensure their most up to date contact information is in PowerSchool at all times. Please contact FSHS at 223-0600 to update your information. For further information: https://5il.co/k7ze
Continued tidbits from the FSHS Operations Plan: Dropping off items: Parents who bring items to school for students will be asked to leave items in the vestibule in a tub. The items should have the students name on them when they are dropped off. Also, parents need to know that these items will be unsecured so avoiding bringing items to school is the best practice. Picking up a student during the day: If a student needs to be picked up during the day, the following protocol should be observed: o Parents or guardians will pull into the west parking lot and park. o Please call 223-0600 to notify the office you are in the lot and waiting for your student(s). o The office will call for your student to come and sign out in the office. Students will NOT be called out of class until the office knows you are in the parking lot. o Please plan times accordingly – we will not allow students to congregate and wait in the office and will not be called from class until the parent/guardian has arrived in the parking lot. o If the student returns before the end of school the appropriate temperature and health screenings MAY be warranted. For futher information: https://5il.co/k7ze
Continued highlights from the operations plan: Microwaves during lunch: FSHS has removed the public microwaves to prevent possible contamination. Temperature and health screen: FSHS students and staff will be required to have a temperature check and two question health screen to gain entry into the school. Having a temperature of 100 degrees will require the individual to be re-assessed to confirm the temperature. If confirmed that student or staff member must not continue their day at FSHS. Parents will be notified in this case and further information will be provided at that time. For additional information - https://5il.co/k03x
Continued highlights from the operations plan: Masks: FSHS will be following the Governor of Kansas’ executive order that will require those persons in our building to have face covering because of the limited ability to keep physically distant. We also realize the difficulty in wearing a mask continuously. Our staff and students will attempt utilize mask breaks during the day when we are able to physical distance more than 6ft. Entrance/Exit Bus students will enter the building via the southeast doors when they arrive and will report directly to the aux gym until 7:30 am. At 7:30 am we will open the main East and West doors for non-bus students and those students in the building will go directly to their 1st-period class where their teacher will be waiting for them. Second chance breakfast will be offered mid - morning. https://5il.co/k03x
Highlights from the operations plan... Water Fountains: FSHS will have all our water bottle filling stations running full speed so students should plan on bringing a water bottle to use throughout the day. Lockers: FSHS will ask students to use backpacks to contain their materials. We will be utilizing online textbooks for many of the subjects and will work to be as digital as possible with classwork, assignments, and projects to cut down on the amount of material each student would normally store in their lockers. https://5il.co/k03x
