Students, if you are struggling emotionally or mentally, please remember that the school therapists are available. Our therapists specialize in childhood trauma, depression and anxiety. If you are interested in seeing one of the school therapists please contact your counselor by email or come to speak with them. If you are a freshman or sophomore, please contact Mr. Altic (email@example.com). If you are a junior or senior, please contact Mr. Messer (firstname.lastname@example.org). There is no need to suffer in silence when there is help available. It is private and confidential.
Reasons why people feel they shouldn't start counseling
1. They don't have 'enough' trauma. Often people feel they have to experience significant trauma or abuse to need therapy. They sometimes invalidate themes or arr told by others they don't have any reason to feel down or anxious. Any person can benefit from a counseling session. Likely if you have thought 'I should talk to someone' you probably should. It doesn't have to be frequent or intense. Therapy is different for everyone. There are so many experiences that people have that can contribute to emotional dysregulation.
So no 'trauma' necessary even though most of us have difficult experiences from time to time. (Also you can't have too much trauma either!) We can focus and work on whatever is bothering you or help.you figure out what that is.
2. I don't want people to think I am crazy. We often suffer alone because we fear what other people may think or what we may find out about ourselves. A high percentage of your peers, adults in your life etc have talked to a counselor of some sort or have considered doing so. As for fear of 'crazy' often therapy helps us to feel better and helps us to stop invalidating ourselves. Also it can help you figure out symptoms, where they come from and what you can do to manage them .
3. Talking to someone I don't know would be weird.
It can feel awkward for the first few minutes but usually at the end of the 1st session people report feeling comfortable. Also it can be helpful to share with someone you don't have to worry about seeing outside of session and someone who is non-biased and there just for you. A therapist can help you make sense of your symptoms and tell you what is normal or what is anxiety/depression etc.
4. I worry that they will share what I say.
The only things that therapists are mandated to share is if you have suicidal ideation and won't commit to a safety plan or have life threatening behaviors, if there is any abuse or neglect to anyone under 18. It is meant to be confident so you can get what you need.
5. Talking can't really help. Can it?
Talking on it's own can make some difference but therapy is ACTIVE. You don't just vent. You get feedback, learn skills, process thoughts, learn about symptoms, make sense of things, problem solve things with helpful guidance, have someone who is there for you and who is unbiased to help.you achieve your goals.
If you are thinking about talking to someone go ahead and reach out. It could be one session, as needed sessions, one a week, once a month. Whatever you and your provider decide together. Just please don't suffer alone.

Student Council members are selling fruit! Orders are due November 6th. Fruit will be delivered in early December. The exact delivery date will be determined after the final order is submitted.
Senior Activities, Senior Pictures, & Senior Salutes for Yearbook:
1. Please complete the necessary form (ask Dr. Laubenstein for the link to the google form) for your activities to be added alongside your senior portrait.
2. Seniors and senior parents, you need to be getting your senior pictures and senior salutes to the Crimson staff. Portraits need to be vertical headshot without additional objects, but with any background. The deadline to receive senior pictures for the yearbook is Friday, November 20, 2020. If you can’t send a portrait by this date, please email us with the projected date.
This senior picture will be used for the yearbook and newspaper. Send these portraits digitally to Crimson Staff at email@example.com. It is preferred that your photographer email us the image. We cannot print images that have been taken from social media sites – we must have the original file.
3. Senior Salutes are your opportunity to leave a message to your senior and/or the senior class. Sizes range from 1/8 of a page with 1 picture to a full page with up to 10 pictures. These are published in the back of the yearbook. The deadline to receive senior salutes is also November 20. Go to www.yearbookforever.com to purchase a salute.
The Crimson Staff
Applications are now being accepted for the Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Program. The program, held on the KSU campus, is July 8th through July 11th. Please check your email and contact Mr. Messer for more information or to pick up an application.
SkillsUSA Motto is “Preparing for leadership in the world of work.” Come to the first Zoom meeting Thursday to see what it’s all about and then decide if you’d like to join. The Google Classroom code is s44qwsp and meetings are via Zoom on the first Thursday of the month.
FSHS Improvised Acting Team Invitation:
Improv is a spontaneous form of acting that involves creating scenes on the spot. Practice is Wednesdays afterschool from 3:30 until 4:45 in the auditorium. For more information, reach out to Mr. Bergmann or Ms. Bin.
